TYPES OF NUMBERS

Whole numbers can be classified into several categories:

1. EVEN & ODD
Even Numbers are divisible by 2. This means when you divide them by 2 there is no remainder. Even numbers END with the digits 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8. The first even number is 2. Zero is not an even number.
(Examples: 8, 24, 52, 78, 204, 160, 626)

Odd Numbers are NOT divisible by 2. This means when you divide them by 2 there IS a remainder. Odd numbers END with the digits 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9. The first odd number is 1. Negative numbers are NOT ODD.
(Examples: 7, 25, 53, 79, 203, 161, 627)

2. PRIME & COMPOSITE
Prime Numbers ONLY have 2 factors. These two factors are the numbers '1' and the number itself. The only way you can find the product is by multiplying 1 by itself. THE NUMBER 1 IS NOT A PRIME NUMBER. The first Prime Number is 2.
(Examples: 2, 13, 29, 17, 67)

Composite Numbers have MORE THAN 2 factors. This means there are other ways that you can find the product in addition to multiplying 1 by itself. The first Composite Number is 4.
(Examples: 52, 78, 204, 160, 626)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

3. NEGATIVE & POSITIVE
Positive Numbers are whole numbers greater than zero.
(Examples: 5, 153, 7683, 37682, 66, 3)

Negative Numbers are integers less than zero
(Examples: -2, -73, -256, -1602)

THE NUMBER ZERO IS NEITHER POSITIVE
NOR NEGATIVE
